Your status as a native English speaker is itself a valuable asset to every student you work with.
Encourage & Inspire Young People
You’ll build genuine relationships with students, supporting their confidence and enthusiasm for learning. Your energy, patience and positivity make a real difference to how students experience English, and to their broader enjoyment of school life.
Contribute to School Life
Beyond the classroom, you’ll actively contribute to the smooth running of the school’s daily operations. Volunteers with particular interests or skills are encouraged to get involved in other aspects of school life, making this a placement where what you bring as an individual genuinely matters.

What Life at a Spanish School Actually Looks Like
Everything you need to know about the day-to-day practicalities of your placement.
Work Schedule
You’ll work 16 hours in the classroom each week, with plenty of time outside that to explore and get involved in wider school life. Volunteers benefit from three-day weekends (Friday to Sunday) and all Spanish school holidays, giving you ample opportunity to travel and experience the local culture.
Food & Accommodation
You’ll live with a Spanish host family, experiencing authentic home life and traditional Spanish meals, including the obligatory paella. Host families can cater to specific dietary requirements. You’ll have a private room and a genuine home away from home for the duration of your placement.

Spain Volunteer Reviews
Rated by people who've been there and done it.
Scout camp volunteer
I personally went from volunteering in schools in Spain to scout camps in the uk; from travelling alone in this world to forced to live with strangers
It’s been the greatest transition in my adventure of this world, I have loved every moment.
Scout camp volunteer has its high and lows but some of the best rewards, like strong work ethic, the closest friends you will ever make and strange but useful skill sets.
I can easily say the past year of working hard have taught and given me the best lesson and memories.
I am leaving my camp teary eyes with a full heart and full head of knowledge.
I would and will recommend this program and PACCAR to anyone willing and interested in hands on and big adventures
Thank you Paccar
My Experience in Valencia
Coming to Spain has been the best decision of my entire life. I’ve met some of my best friends that I’ll stay friends with for the rest of my life, had some of the best experiences and adventures I’ve ever had, I’ve been able to experience and live a culture so different to my own, all while trying to be a positive role model to my students.
After getting about 2 months into the program, I made the decision to extend my time here because I knew that I would continue to love what I’m doing.
I have already recommended this program to some of my friends back home in Australia, and will continue to recommend it to everyone because it has genuinely been the best year of my life.
I Highly recommend the Spain program
I volunteered in Spain for 6 months as a language assistant and was placed in a small rural town called Faramontanos De Tábara. The community was small and so welcoming. My host family were very friendly and excited to have me in their house, they showed me many amazing things around Spain including Mallorca, Zamora and so much more. Living in such a small community gave me the opportunity to participate in events such as carnival where my group won the costume contest. The school I was placed at had 2 campuses but not many students being such a rural area, the 1st campuses had 11 students where the 2nd had no more then 100 students. The kids were always so eager to learn and improve their skills in the English language. Not only did I help these students learn but I learnt so much about myself and what I was capable of achieving when I put might mind to it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about applying for and completing this placement.
Start by completing our application form, which helps us understand your background, interests and what you’re hoping to get from the experience. Your Spain Programme Manager will review it and assess your suitability for a school language placement. If it looks like a strong fit, you’ll be invited to a friendly video interview, usually around 40 minutes, where you can get to know the NVW team, ask your questions, and make sure the placement is right for you. If successful, we’ll match you with a suitable school and send you an offer letter. You’ll then secure your place with a deposit, and we’ll guide you through every step from there.
As early as possible. Placements start in January or September and spaces are limited. We recommend applying at least six months in advance to allow enough time for the interview process, background checks, visa application and travel arrangements. That said, if your preferred start date is approaching, it’s still worth getting in touch and we’ll let you know what’s possible.
Yes, most volunteers will need a sponsored visa to volunteer at a Spanish school. Support with the visa process is included in your programme fee. We’ll explain exactly what’s required for your nationality, provide sponsorship where needed, and guide you through each step. You’ll complete the application yourself and cover the visa cost, but you won’t be navigating it alone.
NVW is not a registered immigration adviser. Any guidance we offer is based on previous successful applications and publicly available government information.
You need to be a native or near-native English speaker. This is central to the role, as your primary purpose is to support and enrich the English language skills of Spanish students. If you’re unsure whether your level is sufficient, apply and we’ll assess this as part of the interview process.
Yes. English tuition is in high demand across Spain, and volunteers have the opportunity to earn additional income through private tutoring. The school can help arrange these opportunities for you. This can make a meaningful difference to your day-to-day budget during the placement.
The schools are located in small towns and cities across Spain, giving you an authentic experience of Spanish life rather than a tourist one. Each school is thoroughly vetted by NVW, and fellow volunteers are always nearby so you’ll never feel isolated.
You won’t be on your own. Your host school and Josh, your Spain Programme Manager, are your first points of contact for day-to-day matters, and the wider NVW team is always available if something more serious arises. We check in regularly throughout your placement and visit placements where possible to make sure standards are being met. No concern is too small to raise with us.
Volunteers consistently highlight the combination of personal growth, professional experience and cultural immersion as the standout takeaway. You’ll develop real communication, leadership and organisational skills in a live classroom environment, all while living and working in one of Europe’s most vibrant countries. The friendships, the language, and the experiences tend to stay with you long after you return home.
